PROGRAMME GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The Environmental Sustainability Leadership Symposium aims to:
- Empower 30 Malaysian youth by providing them with the necessary
tools and skills to become independent sustainability leaders capable
of building capacity among Malaysian youth, able to function as peer
educators in their own communities, and inspire a greater environmental
awareness and responsibility in others.

Establish a core of effective climate advocates who will be able
to facilitate synergy and coordinate various chapters of the youth
climate justice network.
- Facilitate the formulation and planning of several strategic
climate change related projects where participants of the symposium
will answer the call to action by putting their own ideas to work using
the tools and resources that have been introduced during the symposium.
These initiatives will be varied, incorporating the use of diverse
medium with different scopes, to communicate urgency and advocate for
bold and just climate policy.

Prepare and enable a delegation of 10 Malaysian youth, identified
as potential leaders, to be part of the Global Youth Climate Justice
movement at the COP 15 negotiations in Copenhagen. At the negotiations,
the delegation will observe and monitor theinternational process and
provide the Malaysian youth perspective during various workshops and
panels.From this learning experience, the delegation will be
responsible for communicating the outcome of the negotiations to other
Malaysian youth as well as analysing the best way forward to prepare
for the 2nd commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol.

SESSIONS
The main focus of the symposium is to dismantle traditional mindsets to
allow strategic action to address relevant issues effectively. In
addition to that, participants will receive training in the practical
skills needed to execute their projects. However, content is still
being finalized. The suggested session topics include:

Media boot camp for effective campaigns and exploiting new media

Fundraising
-
Organisation, management, recruitment and sustainability
-
History of the green movement in Malaysia and moving forward
-
Project management skills
-
Brainstorming on action plans
-
Catalysing agents of change
PARTICIPANT & APPLICATION PROCESS
The Symposium will be limited to 30 participants who have demonstrable
leadership qualities, team working skills, and past experience with
environmental and/or social initiatives.
Eligibility:

Malaysian citizens aged 18-30 on 27 August 2009.

Be of Malaysian citizenship.
Application Process:

An application form will be available on-line.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate their experience and
skills to win a place at the Symposium, provide reference support, and
outline a strategic climate change related project which could be
carried out after the Symposium.
- The selection panel will convene to pick the 30 best applicants.
