The Department of Environment (DOE) was institutionalised in 1975. Presently, the Department is empowered with 1568 staffs (on full operation), extending its operation through 15 States Offices and 26 Branch Offices. The Department's main role is to prevent, control and abate pollution through the enforcement of the EQA,1974 and its 34 subsidiary legislation made thereunder. Bplast, short for (Bio + plastic) distributes renewable plastic at the right price, offering cost-competitive alternatives to traditional petroleum-based resins. Bplast's renewable plastics are starch-based, created from breakthrough technology. Gerai Orang Asal (OA)

Gerai Orang Asal (OA) just turned 4 in October 2008. Run by volunteers with 100% remittance back to the Orang Asal craftspeople, the crafts sold at Eco Film Fest are often rarely found in mainstream shops. The items sold include natural bead accessories, baskets made from various natural fibres, pandanus mats, traditional puzzles & musical instruments. Sales of these items help supplement the income of our Orang Asal craftspeople and also helps keeps their culture alive. Sustainable harvesting of their raw materials also keeps their environment green and generates awareness to keep their traditional lands intact. |

The BYEE Alumni – Malaysian youth who advocate environmental issues and are linked together as previous participants of the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) Programme. This programme which aims to improve the youth’s knowledge regarding environmental issues, gives selected students the opportunity to go for a weeklong study tour in Germany and experience how the people, government and industry in one of the leading countries with regard to technology and environmental awareness, practice environmental protection. Irrespective of the year we are named envoys, we believe that we can make a difference through practical actions, to shape positive changes in our nation’s attitude towards environmental issues and problems. We also believe that everyone plays an important role in environmental conservation, management and sustainable development irrespective of their background and field of work or study.
