EcoKnights comprise of professional individuals with a great passion for education, community outreach and the environment. We are biologists, creative designers, architects, academicians, educators, engineers, business developers, you name it! We pull all of our resources together with the objective of promoting sustainable actions through eco-friendly solutions (from creative content development and communication to green technology and consultancies).
EcoKnights is ultimately about empowering people to embark on environmental efforts, no matter big or small, towards a sustainable living and environment.
The EcoKnights
Yasmin Rasyid
Yasmin is a biologist by profession and environmentalist by
passion. With a B.Sc in Biology and Religion from Duke, and a M.Sc from
University Malaya (Biotechnology), she has been crusading for the
environment since 1998. Having worked at NGOs (WWF-Malaysia) and a
corporate company, Yasmin finally decided to take a hiatus and focused
on her daughter until the Calling to work on the environment came to
her. With her vast experiences in environmental field work and
reporting, as well as her interests in CSR, Yasmin later formed and
founded EcoKnights. She now runs around like a headless chicken
managing EcoKnights’ programmes while trying to answer all her
5-year-old daughter’s wacky questions.
Khaidi Kamaruddin
Khaidi is a marketeer extraordinaire and helps EcoKnights in
setting the strategic direction for all our programmes. Khaidi also
represents EcoKnights in seeking for strategic partnerships with key
business players to synergize efforts to embark on renewable energy
efforts. In his spare time, Khaidi reads and indulges in motorsports.
Khaidi is also a big fan of renewable energy and has adopted some of
the technology in his projects.
Khaize Kamaruddin
Making business sense in today’s conservation efforts is
pertinent in ensuring the success of eco-projects. This is why we have
Khaize, or affectionately known as Jojo, on our team. An alumna of
Drexel University, Philadelphia, Khaize has 8 working years of
experience in doing what he does best, developing business programmes.
With his love for the outdoors and traveling, Khaize also heads the
annual EcoKnights Luau.
Taq Latif
With a degree in psychology and a certificate in marketing,
Taq works on strategic planning and operations with Khaidi to assist in
guiding EcoKnights to achieve its long term vision and goals. On his
free time, Taq enjoys the outdoors and hangs out in his backyard
observing the behavioral aspects of the native monkeys of Section 16.
Theodore Labunda
Theo is the mega supreme creative art director for EcoKnights.
A native Sabahan, he got the call for the creative arts from his
family. He works on all creative aspects of EcoKnights’ publications.
When he has his juices (no pun intended) flowing, Theo normally works
out a storm of ideas for us. Otherwise, this website and our books
would be rather dull. Theo is a graduate from LICT with a degree in
Product Design. In Theo's case, he is the MASTER of all forms of art.
He now resides in Sabah with his lovely wife Evelyn, and their
soon-to-be born baby.
Zahadin Omar
Zadin is EcoKnights’ IT guru. He’s so important that everyone
has his number on speed dial. Seriously Zadin’s role is important and
that includes taking a whole lot of crap from us and churning it to
interactive materials on our website. It’s something we don’t like to
(or rather don’t know to) do so thank the man above, we have Zadin.
Ahmad Nasron
Ahmad Nasron has taken up the responsibility in churning out
creative ideas for both the website and print media. He was the
creative person behind this year’s Eco Film Fest 2008 print media. An
avid lover of loud and noisy rock music, Nas, as we affectionately call
him, is also a graduate from LICT with a diploma in Graphic Design.
Iza Rahayu
Iza, or affectionately known as Jaja, is in charge of
EcoKnights’ volunteer programme. With a degree in Psychology and
Economics from Westminister University, she assists in coordination of
all volunteer efforts in support of EcoKnights’ events and programmes.
Deep Gill
Deep is EcoKnight’s experienced communications officer. He guards
the EcoKnights gateway to the media and ensures that all publicity
materials are managed accordingly. An ex-journalist with a leading
newspaper for the last 8 years, Deep enjoys the finest things in life
from good food, music and parties. With his sidekick, Homes Randy, Deep
epitomizes the “soul” of EcoKnights.
Rubin Singh
The original "crusader" for the environment, Rubin is an avid
birdwatcher, of the natural kind. As an Associate producer of one of
the country's best production houses, Rubin has contributed many
creative ideas in the creation of the EcoKnights website. He travels to
the East coast often, in search for the natural high and indulges in
the local communities efforts.
Fadly Bakhtiar
Fadly Bakhtiar is now EcoKnight's newest member. He is the Programme
Coordinator for Eco Film Fest 2008 and deals mainly with the
organisation and logistics of running a film festival. An active "Komodo Ninja", Fadly has been brave enough to try and dabble his capabilities in various fields. He is EcoKnight # 11.
The Interns
Aliff Yusri
Aliff Yusri is currently an intern with EcoKnights. He assists in the organisational and planning matters related to Eco FIlm Fest, and has also been a great help with the events. He has had training in the field of journalism, as well as some experience working for a local daily. Aliff gradutes this year with a UniSA Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Taylor's College.
