June 11, 2008 – In National Geographic News’ latest online article, it was reported that Lake Chad, one of the world’s sixth largest lake, is now one-tenth of its former size.

The images shown here are part of Africa: Atlas of Our Changing Environment, a new UN book unveiled today to illustrate how climate change is affecting the continent.

This goes to show how serious the situation has become.
